Where should my clients pull their credit report?

There are literally hundreds of websites from which clients can pull their credit reports. The first question from your client will likely be, “Doesn’t it hurt my score to pull my credit report?”. For the sites listed below, the short answer is “No, it will not hurt your score”. (A more detailed explanation of this answer will be provided in a future article. For now, just assure your clients that is will not hurt their score.)

Recommended Websites

www.AnnualCreditReport.com

Pros:

  • Free report from each bureau (once per year)

Cons:

  • Credit Score is not included (may be purchased)
  • Each bureau produces a separate report (not a 3-in-1 or Tri-merge)
  • Cumbersome for consumer to go to each bureau to pull a report

www.CreditKarma.com

Pros:

  • Free reports (from 2 of the 3 bureaus)
  • Scores included, but they are Vantage Scores (not FICO)

Cons:

  • No Experian report (only TransUnion and Equifax)
  • Scores are not FICO (i.e. not “mortgage” scores)
  • They will try to “sell” ancillary products to you
  • Their “Credit Alerts” are sometimes misleading

www.MyScoreIQ.com

Pros:

  • Tri-merge (or 3-in-1) report
  • All 3 bureaus included
  • 7-day trial for $1.00
  • Scores included, but they are Vantage Scores (not FICO)

Cons:

  • $28/month after 7-day trial
  • Scores are not FICO (i.e. not “mortgage” scores)

www.MyFico.com

Pros:

  • FICO Score (mortgage score available)
  • Tri-merge (or 3-in-1) report

Cons:

  • $30-$40 per month, depending on package
  • No Trial Period
  • Limited report refreshes, depending on package

Clearly, there is no “perfect” site for your clients to pull their report. But, depending on what they are looking for, one of the above options should fit their needs.
